Blaine, WA
Blaine is best known for the beautiful 40-acre Peace Arch State Park, which features an exquisite, formal, garden cooperatively tended by both U.S. and Canadian park rangers. The Blaine Marine Park is a seven-acre park featuring lookout towers to take in the spectacular view over the Straight of Georgia. The Plover Ferry runs weekends from the end of May through Labor Day ferrying foot passengers and bicycles from Blaine across Drayton Harbor to Semiahmoo Sand Spit and the Semiahmoo Trail. There are more than 300 acres of tidelands within the Semiahmoo Park, which offer an abundance of recreational opportunities such as beachcombing, clam digging, bird watching, and scenic viewing. The park features biking and walking trails, and picnic areas with tables and fire pits. Sport fishing excursions can be chartered from Blaine Harbor. In June, you can enjoy the annual Peace Arch Celebration honoring neighborly relations where 10,000 people, mostly children gather and exchange flags as a demonstration of peace. Blaine has a charming Christmas lighting celebration the first week of December when children place their handmade ornaments on a community Christmas tree, and lights go on all over town.
